Ratings Machine Race Score Tab
The Race Score tab is as the name suggests where you apply your settings to help define a score for each race. This score is all important as it is the start base used to compile the Last/2nd Last and 3rd Last Ratings (as well as contributing to the Total Rating). Therefore understanding each of the components is vital. Below are details of each of the setting types and how they are used in the overall ratings process. It is very important to note you need not assign scores to all tests, indeed it may be the case you do not feel one or more of the tests is worthwhile - if so just leave it as 0.

Quality Bracket
There are ten brackets of quality which you can assign a score to. Every race ran in the UK/Ireland falls into one of these brackets. As there is no class system in place in Ireland, HorseRaceBase uses a method based on prize money to slot each of the races into an appropriate bracket. It would appear to make sense to apply a higher score to the better quality brackets but this of course at your own discretion. To assign a score simply use the dropdown and select an appropriate point score between 0 and 100.
Prize Money Translator
The Prize Money Translator can be used to translate the prize money awarded to the winner into a score. This is done with a start point on a 0-10 basis created by dividing the prize money by 1000 and rounding the value, then multiplying this figure by your setting. For higher value races these will all have a start point of 10. Through severe testing we decided it had to be this way as once you are dealing with races worth hundreds of thousands etc its very difficult to translate this to a score. The best way is to use the Group/Grade/Listed options in the Quality Bracket. For an example for the Prize Money Translator lets say you set the value at 5.
This would mean a race worth £8,345 would have a Prize Money Translator value of 40 (start point of 8 * 5).
A race worth £15,000 to the winner would have a Prize Money Translator value of 50 (start point of 10 * 5).
A race worth £950 to the winner would have a Prize Money Translator value of 5 (start point of 1 * 5).
Prior Form Bonus
To calculate the Prior Form Bonus, the calculation is
(Prior Wins * Your Prior Win Setting)+(Prior Places * Your Prior Place Setting)
It is extremely important to note a winning horse is also a placed horse.
Lets say you set the Prior Win Setting (PWS) at 4 and Prior Place Setting (PPS) at 5. In a race with 3 horses who won last time (PW) out and another 2 who finished in the placings (PP) the total Prior Form Bonus score is 37 (PWS 4 * PW 3) + (PPS 5 * PP 5).
Subsequent Form Bonus
To calculate the Subsequent Form Bonus, the calculation is
(Subsequent Wins * Your Subsequent Win Setting)+(Subsequent Wins * Your Subsequent Place Setting)
It is extremely important to note a winning horse is also a placed horse. It is also vital to note a subsequent win/place is only taken into account if it occurred before the race being rated. In other words if a horse runs one day and then again the next, there will be no subsequent score.
The score works in exactly the same way as the Prior Form bonus but to repeat with slightly different figures, lets say you set the Subsequent Win Setting (SWS) at 2 and Subsequent Place Setting (SPS) at 1. In a race with 9 horses who won last time (SW) out and another 15 who finished in the placings (SP) the total Subsequent Form Bonus score is 42 (SWS 2 * PW 9) + (PPS 1 * PP 24).
Official Rating Multiplier
The Official Rating Multiplier calculation is -
(Top OR * Your Top OR setting) + (Win OR * Your Win OR setting)
The Top OR is simply the highest official rating in the race, the winning OR is the official rating of the winning horse.
Lets say you set your Top OR setting as 1 and Win OR as 2. In the race being calculated the highest OR was 87 and the winning OR was 90, therefore the total Official Rating Multiplier score is 267 (87 * 1) + (90 *2).
Race Type Percentage
The final calculation in the Race Score is to alter all the previous calculations when added together by a percentage as we deem appropriate. Lets say we are rating Handicaps and we want to reduce any race score of a Non Handicap by 30% - to do so we would set Handicap at 100% and Non Handicap at 70%. Putting this into effect imagine two identical scores of 100 would therefore be altered to read 100 and 70 (for the Non Handicap).
If you want to avoid this test, set both at 100%. Note your complete race score is dramatically affected by this setting and you should take time to understand what it means.
