Named after Arkle the famous triple winner of the Gold Cup, this Grade 1 novice chase is the second race on the opening day of the Cheletenham festival. With 12 fences to jump the competing novice chasers travel over a distance of 2 miles. There was no race in 2001 due to the foot and mouth outbreak.
